OPOS & ODBC

OPOS and ODBC

  • OPOS is a platform specific implementation of Point-of-Sale device standards for Microsoft Windows Operating Systems. OPOS is managed by the Association for Retail Technology Standards. The standard uses component object model and utilizes languages that support COM controls (i.e. Visual C++, Visual Basic and C#) which can be used to write applications.
  • ODBC is a standard programming language middleware API for accessing database management systems. ODBC accomplishes database management systems independence by using an ODBC Driver as a translation layer between the application and the DBMS. Applications that are considered to be ODBC Compliant are applications designed to access data sources such as address books and Microsoft Excel files.
